At the origin of Sexy Shadows

Sexy Shadows was born from a rather minimalistic idea, which gradually grew richer through the creative process. As ideas unfolded, the challenge became clear: to let the narrative evolve without repeating the same patterns, allowing the music to guide the image while opening up new visual spaces.

As I mentioned in my article dedicated to self-production, embarking on a project of this scale means taking responsibility for every stage: composition, performance, filming, animation and post-production. This path requires time, precision and constant attention to detail.

Sexy Shadows is not just an electronic dance music video. It is a demanding, personal and immersive project, conceived as an exhibition where music, shadows and particles interact in perfect synchronisation.

An instrument at the heart of the project

At the centre of Sexy Shadows lies the Jazzy-Kora, a unique instrument whose sonic richness shaped the entire project. Its harmonic palette influenced not only the musical dynamics, but also the presence of the dancers and the way the image unfolds in space.

From the end of the introduction, a first shadow appears on a painter’s tripod beside me. It accompanies the music throughout the piece, marking the tempo, the breaths and the breaks. Subtle yet constant, it becomes a rhythmic reference, directly connected to the musical gesture and the visual universe.

Filming and the presence of bodies

The filming was carried out against a green screen in order to integrate the bodies into a fully reconstructed environment. This approach makes it possible to isolate gestures and movements and inscribe them more precisely within the visual space of the clip.

The dancers are never shown in a raw or literal way. Their presence is suggested, transformed and absorbed into the final image. This choice preserves their anonymity while reinforcing the graphic and abstract dimension of the project. Bodies become moving silhouettes, serving the rhythm.

When sound becomes space

The 3D animation gives rise to a constantly evolving visual space. The dancers merge into the image, becoming shadows, textures and movement. Shadows and particles follow the music with precision, responding to accents, pulses and silences.

Each note influences the movement, each break alters the balance of the image. Sound gradually becomes a material, while the image acts as a natural extension of the rhythm. The clip is conceived as an immersive exhibition, where the viewer moves through the paintings on display as a succession of tableaux animated by the music.

The fully self-produced approach made it possible to preserve complete coherence between music and image, without compromise, from the first chord to the final luminous vibration.

Extending the experience

Sexy Shadows is the result of a long creative process, shaped by experimentation, refinement and deliberate artistic choices. The clip offers a sensory experience in which music and image move forward together, as one.

This research is already continuing through a new project currently in development, extending this visual and artistic approach, particularly around 3D and the dialogue between sound and image.
